Wild Clay bowl, fingerprint texture, seconds quality
Wild Clay bowl, fingerprint texture, seconds quality
Made from clay dug from my farm in Saskatchewan.
The glaze is also made from the clay itself - mixed with water and powdered glass (frit), the mixture fuses to the clay in the high temperature of the kiln and makes a smooth surface. There is a glaze imperfection in the inside of the bowl, and this is technically not food safe, so I’m selling it for a discounted price.
5.5” / 13cm across, 2.5” / 6.5cm high
Artist's Notes:
I now live in BC, Canada, but I’ll always be a Saskatchewan farm kid! Thank you for taking a look at my experiments. It took 2 years to figure out how turn this Saskatchewan mud into a mug, and I’m so happy to share the results with you. When working with this Saskatchewan soil, I like to leave a lot of the raw clay exposed, so we can see and feel the character of the clay itself. The colour varies from a shiny brown with white specks, to a matte reddish brown, depending on where the piece was in the kiln. The variance in the pieces is what makes this wild clay so dynamic and interesting to me.
This piece is not food safe. It is fine to use in the microwave, oven and dishwasher safe, but handmade pottery loves to be pampered with hand washing and gentle use :) The bottom of each piece has been smoothed with diamond sanding pads to prevent scratching your furniture.
